While today it is widely loved as a popular tourist destination,
the basin of Mt. Yufu is blessed with clear, flowing streams
and remains a tranquil land rich in natural beauty.

Yufuin Town
Yunotsubo Street, which extends from JR Yufuin Station, is the town’s main thoroughfare.
Lined with popular sweet shops known for long queues, charming cafés, stylish restaurants using local Yufuin vegetables, and souvenir stores,
the street stretches left and right like rows of Edo-style townhouses, forming the vibrant heart of Yufuin.
Mt. Yufu
A mountain located on the border between Yufu City and Beppu City.
Its striking form, with twin rocky peaks rising sharply to the east and west, has been revered since ancient times as a sacred mountain believed to be home to the gods, giving rise to many legends and tales.
Known affectionately as the “Bungo Fuji,” Mt. Yufu is one of Oita Prefecture’s most celebrated peaks.
Thanks to its accessibility, it is the second most popular mountain in the region after the Kuju Mountain Range.
Unagihime Shrine
Also known as “Rokusho-gu” due to the enshrinement of six deities including Kuninotokotachi-no-Mikoto,
this shrine has long been cherished by the local community.
Within its spacious grounds, cedar trees grow naturally,
and visitors can also see the remaining stump of the former sacred tree that was felled by a typhoon.
